New Debian31r1 Install help me optimize TNT2 sudo KDE Xwindows 419I appreciate the time you took to reply - thanks Andreas Janssen The major issue was telling the Installer to use *multiple* sources - during the 1st debian install after setting up parbreastions an such, (and then presented with 5 or 6 'sources' locations) I told it to find the files on CDROM, great - then it asked if i'd like to ADD another, I said yes, then added FTP - at which point it HUNG and wouldn't budge, so I aborted (somehow). During the 2nd install, (and remember I wiped the Linux parbreastions and created anew), when it asked for install-update 'sources', I chose FTP first (the ftp.de site) - and then I was NOT presented with add anymore
that's the way I understood it should work - I mean the card is over 6 yrs old now
I think i NEED to setup my sound, and that will kick the stupid system into sorting out the IRQ buttignments and Sharing
I could care less at this point about the stupid PCI Winmodem -- I will pull it if necessary, but it's not an issue on 98, and ti doesn't see the card as another Serial device, as far as I can tell -- Like to see a lspci -vv output ? (or similar ? -- sorry not familiar with correct syntax for Serail port buttignment output....please inform me if necessary, thanks) Duh...I already said that -- and AFAICT, most if not all the KDE components are the 1st install CD, so why after installing and telling it explicitly to find it on CDROM and HTTP, did it give me back 4 stupid http sources only with nutzo-spurious errors - and NO KDE install, no nothing, nada, zippo.
Duh again -- dude - I saw as plain as day the stupid debconf reference, but that did not help in one stinkin bit, did it....(it would've helped if it told me WHERE that stupid file was located). Eventually, I did end up manuallyediting XF86Config-4 anyway...I had to, because I chose 1600x1200 during the 'dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86' (kind of out of spite after only seeing 800x600 as the *best* display parameters in K Control Panel -- oh, and KXCONFIG didn't do poo either, it wouldn't run - whereas in Knoppix3.6 (kernel2.6), it worked ok, though buggy) and my 17" LCD monitor only supports 1280x1024 -- but I edited the lines "1600x1200" out of the file and saved it as root, and rebooted into 1280x1024 bliss...finally. You could try xpdf, which is NOT a frontend for ghostscript. PDF... Oh yeah -- BTW, in xserver-xfree86 setup -- nice how the stupid installer does NOT tell you to press SPACE-BAR to ENTER an 'X' to choose your settings......what a funky dump!...I figured that out from my DOS knowledge...also; the space-bar does diddly-squat elsewhere during an install. I forgot to add the link, so allow me now;
thanks - never friggin heard of it -- now I know
Yes - but from WHERE in apbreastude ?? under Admin, under User, under Tasks -- and then under which App ?? -- there seems to be 5,648,254 choices :-( or do I just run 'apt-get install hdparm' ??? I would LIKE to get ALL the system tools that were available to me while in a KNOPPIX boot (including all Networking tools).....especially SUDO related, so I can start setting up the Login and su processes correctly, per user Thank you -- I will test that now
Umm - there is no other box on this network at the moment....I see I now have a QuickLaunch icon for MAIL in the bar - though uncooperatively, KDE will NOT let me add a Konsole shortcut there...what a kick in the a$$. The mail thing can wait though - it's not priority atm, thank you though. yeah well , easier said than done - I was a win bozo for sometime - but trying to change that
I suspect; once I setup the Soundsystem, it may realign itself appropriately (hopefully)
ghostscript installation differences between root or normal user Horacio SuSE 9.0 needs a bulltet through it. My experience is that it was ghods-awful. If you need a 9.x release, upgrade immediately to SuSE... urgent!!!thanks On 2006-02-16, danish You don't need ls, and it will fail if any directory names contain spaces. To loop through the directories: for i in * When the script loops, you will... Thanks - I have 2.6.8-2-386 installed.....BTW, I forgot the kernel version command ?? how do I connect Debian to Cox Cable modem successfully slightly OT On Thu, 16 Feb 2006 19:23:30 -0700, Jules Dubois Have you tried to dig the info out of Windows? Control Panel.Network.Properties(?) (sorry, don't use M$ Win-stuff) should provide...
Ok - output on it's way (I hope) -- but be warned... catproc-parbreastions gave me nothing but errors
Thanks - will make a note and try snip Thanks - butvar andusr are 10GB each -- hehe...I forgot which parbreastions should be of the 'bigger' size ...I will post another output file to show this better eventually
Ok ....I know mount, and there ARE entries and folders located in those various parbreastions, but some say 0 KBs -- will look into df gee, how silly of me same here - and thank you for your effort
