Although I am a fairly standard Linux user (I use Fedora-3 with KDE 90% of the time, Windows-XP 9% of the time, and an ancient Mac 1% of the time) I thought your original queries were reasonable - although if I had only been using an OS for 2 days I very much doubt if I would have tried as many applications as you did, I would probably have been content with browsing and email.

But now I am not sure if your queries were genuine. Do you write under many names, as was alleged by someone? What kind of work do you do?

I find Linux much more suitable than Windows for the work I do, particularly writing and printing mathematics using LaTeX. This is perfectly possible under Windows, but is more painful for various reasons.

Noah Roberts No, that's silly. Mac OS X is Unix based, so it's just as capable of doing as much real work as any Linux box. The major difference is...

I also find programming much more difficult under Windows.

I mention this to point out that your experience is far from universal.

Actually, off-hand I can't think of any kind of "work" which I would find easier to do under Windows than either under Linux or on a Mac.

Noah Roberts OK. You are enbreastled to your opinion. This Mac iBook meets my needs as a Unixy notebook, but I run Linux for my servers, so...

So please tell me: what kind of work do you do (and do you post under many different names)?
