Newbie parbreastioning question 4355Marten Kemp That changes everything. I had (erroneously) buttumed in my first post thathome was what you were going to be sharing. If you have another filesystem to share, then you probably don't need much space inhome. Newbie parbreastioning question 4357 That was *exactly* the reason symlinks, as opposed to hardlinks, were developed. Then go to LVM. I don't mind symlinks at all though... Debian will install and work in under a gig for simple server use. Just about any parbreastioning scheme you choose will suffice---you have more than enough space. Newbie parbreastioning question 4356 Marten Kemp Ah. In that case, I'd recommend: hda1 9.5gig hda5 .5gig swap When parbreastioning, make sure to create swap in a "secondary parbreastion" rather than... For comparision sake, here's some info from three of my systems (showing only the filesystems where Debian packages may put stuff): Workstation (Debian-testing): 960 MB 104 MB usedusr 2920 MB 2588 MB usedvar 960 MB 182 MB used Server #1 (Debian-testing): 1930 MB 291 MB usedusr 1951 MB 1668 plus 1 MB usedvar 1930 MB 1005 MB used Server #2 (Debian-stable): 474 MB 225 MB usedusr 768 plus 13 MB 261 MB usedvar 768 plus 13 MB 105 MB used Server #1 is used as an NFS server and a Squid proxy (hence the unusually high usage ofvar) but also has a full install of KDE and a lot of X apps driving up usage ofusr. Server #2 is a webserver with a pretty minimal installation on it. As you can see, it fits in about 500 MB. So your 10 GB disk more than enough for a dedicated server. I haven't shownhome in the above charts since usage will vary depending upon your own use.
