Attys Erebos I could be mistaken (Especially as this pertains to 2K-XP, NTFS 5.x) - but if I understand your problem correctly (it's hda1 you're having issues with?) taken from OP's OP...

GCC is open source and comes with all mainstream general-purpose Linux distributions. That doesn't mean it'll necessarily be installed by default, though. Clearly it's not installed on your system.

Fedora has a package installer front-end. I believe it's accessible from the GNOME or KDE desktop (one of the many programs accessible from the icon in the lower-left corner of the screen). I don't recall the exact name, but it should be obvious. Alternatively, you can launch it from an xterm by typing (IIRC) "system-config-packages". Look for and select the development packages. When you tell the system to proceed, it'll ask for your original installation media and install the necessary RPMs. You can also do this manually via the "rpm" command, but you'd need to know precisely which RPM files to install and where they're located. If you want to try it that way, try looking for RPMs on your installation media with names that begin with "gcc". Note that however you do it, you may need to install other library or development RPMs to compile specific programs. I don't know what PHP in particular needs.

Sorry for not being more specific than this; my Fedora system is powered down at the moment, so I'm giving you advice from memory.
