Gordon Muy Bad..I meant there are less obvious *weaknesses* in Linux than windows..not the least of which has already...

Why would this surprise you?

If all the ACPI modules are loaded, ACPI events like the lid closing cause user-definable actions to be triggered ifusr-sbin-acpid is running. The config files are usually inetc-acpi, and there should be some helpful comments in there. If there aren't, holler at my e-mail, and I'll send you a tarball of everything in myetc-acpi.

These keys probably deliver ACPI events of some type. Figure out what that type is, and put an action in your handler scripts for that type. I had to do that; closing the lid on my T42p delivers an event of type "button-lid", while opening the lid delivers an event of type "processor-processor".

Or it could be that this machine does something odd with these keys, like the IBM Thinkpads do with their special keys. It might be worth it someone's already figured it out.

X doesn't have anything to do with ACPI events. Fn-key combinations don't typically deliver keycodes to X, either, so there's no way to use xbindkeys to activate things.

FWIW, "suggestive" has a different meaning than "suggested" in English.
