OOo 2.0 is outWhy I like Linux but an not really satisfied On Friday 21 October 2005 20:54, Mark Healey stood up and spoke the following words to the mbuttes incomp.os.linux.advocacy...: For the record, running to... Why I hate Linux George Ellison Some people think that BASH is a little too big and slow while at the same time missing out on some features that would make it more complete. TCSH, for instance, comes with... Crashdamage Yes, those rpms by default put files toopt-openoffice.org2.0 except the desktop integration rpm (for desktop menus). But you can certainly reallocate them. I tried the following and succeeded: sudo rpm -Uvh --reallocate=-opt-openoffice.org2.0=-usr-lib-ooo-2.0 *.rpm So all files go tousr-lib-ooo-2.0 instead ofopr-openoffice.org2.0. Since redhat-fedora rpms put OOo files tousr-lib-ooo-1.0 orusr-lib-ooo-1.1, I think this reallocation makes sense. I also tried to install the OOo 2.0 rpms first toopt-openoffice.org2.0 then rename the directory toopt-ooo-2.0, and then remove all just-installed rpms (i.e., rpm -e `rpm -qa grep openoffice.org`). This will clear the rpm database but keep the OOo files (now in opt-ooo-2.0). Then you can create it a tar ball and move it to other linux box. This is what I did for my ununtu box. I know I can use alien to convert .rpm to .deb format but I decide that there will be too many package entries for OOo2.0. Note that after I removed the rpms, I can still install the desktopintegration rpm (i.e., the openoffice.org-freedesktop-menus rpm) without dependency problem. Just need to correct the symbolic linketc-openoffice.org-2.0 toopt-ooo-2.0. For OOo 1.0.x or 1.1.x, there are usually only a few rpms like openoffice.org openoffice.org-libs openoffice.org-i18n. Now for OOo2.0, we have 13 rpms for the core: core01, core02. core03, core03u, core04, core04u, ... core10, ... Why don't they merge all these to a single rpm? Cheers, Why I like Linux but an not really satisfied This is my response to the "Why I Hate Linux" thread. I'm not going to go over all the shortcomings of Windows. Everyone knows them. I'm just going to focus on... KB
