Sadly there is a great amount of gear snobbery loose in the pro audio world. For a while I was running Sonar, which I found to be a nice program, but I lost many clients because they wanted Nuendo. Now Nuendo is a very nice program and certainly does a lot that Sonar does not, but you know something? I can't remember ever having a client that used a feature that Nuendo had that Sonar didn't have. I do not do any video stuff BTW. So what it boils down to is familiarity with certain tools coupled with a good degree of gear snobbery.

As far as running a studio with Linux programs IMHO it would be a rest curse because Linux is largely an unknown outside of programming circles. That doesn't mean Linux isn't up to the task, I do not know, but what I do know is that my clients, at least the regulars, have never heard of it. I just asked 12 different people today and I got 12 blank stares.

In my opinion advertising that you use Linux in a studio is like advertising that you sell warm ice cream. It might be good for a few laughs but that's about it.

-- Jason Voorhees Yes that is really my name! My birthday is NOT Friday the 13th !!! Nuendo 3.0, Event ASP8, and so forth.
