There is no such thing as the word successful has different meanings depending on the POV of the person using the word and as the big studios continue to close their doors there will be less commercial high end studios and more project type studios. So in that vein, a person running his own project studio could, like you say, use a squadron of trained grbutthoppers and to HIM his studio might be successful. He could also use Linux and be successful as well. The advent of project studios and such is actually a good thing for Linux because of the concept that the end product, meaning the glbutt master, is what really counts not how you got there. However if you are interfacing with the outside world, expect to sign clients you need to use what are considered standard tools in the industry and Linux just isn't there yet. Here is a top studio: Open Source Software and Linux In The Professional Studio. 886 On Thu, 13 Apr 2006 11:48:21 -0500, Linonut Then you don't know anything about the recording business. I'm a ragged paragraph style? You're not making any sense . People are sue... The Real Truth About Linux Here is the real truth about what Linux is and what it pretends to be. a little snippet... Here is a smaller studio: Both use industry standard tools and there is no mention of Linux audio applications that I can find. The best example of industry standard tools that I can offer is Yamaha NS-10 "monitors". They are crappy sounding consumer quality bookshelf speakers that just happened to catch on in the trade and now are most likely seen in just about every top studio. Are they best? Of course not, which is why you see those soffit mounted units as well. However, they are considered a *standard*. They are the speakers with the white cones in case you don't know :) I have no idea if Linux is up to the task of say a Protools or even a Sonar based system, but if it is and the artist is producing his own work exclusively in his own space then why not use Linux? IOW use what works for you and in this business everyone knows someone who has a crazy way of working that turns the juices on for them so who is to argue with success! -- Jason Voorhees Yes that is really my name! My birthday is NOT Friday the 13th !!! Nuendo 3.0, Event ASP8, and so forth.
