OK, let us understand that we are talking here about Beta software that is updated once a month. Now, your Solaris Express is (AFAIK) not suddenly going to stop working just because 6 moths RTU has expired (there is no time-plant within it) and nobody is going to knock on your door and take you to jail because of that.

Since Software Express OS could be buggy (after all, it is, more or less, a cuurrent snapshot of what's cooking in Sun's labs), it is in your best interest to upgrade soon anyway (and upgrades with saving your settings are possible). You don't run production systems on SE.

Can I run e.g. Linux 1.2 on double XEON with SATA drives and USB2.0 external drives? I can't as the new features are not supported by that OS version. So, my right to use a particular verion of Linux-BSD-Solaris forever is being taken away by HW manufacturers...

Technically, it was only "postponed" but I think we all knew it was canceeled, I grant you that. But if IBM doesn't flip flop, what was; OSF? Monterey? But these are all...

In an ideal world, with unlimited staff and funds, yes. I am sure. But then, in an ideal world you wouln't need support for your software anyway, it would be perfect. :-)

Bye, Dragan

P.S. Have you ever worked on a bug fix that needed to be ported (and tested!) on N different versions of a software product that your company (still) support. A major drag and bore.
