No, I use Galeon uses gtkmozembed, though typically I use w3m or elinks. Yes. They are both incompatible and equally bad. I hope that the GPLv3 will correct this, at which time I'll be happy to use it. I am not arguing against use: I'm saying that I won't touch the sources for any *development*. I generally only write LGPL code, and only contribute to projects which use LGPL-BSD-MIT licences. Nowadays we have a huge proliferation of mutually incompatible yet free licences. One of the great benefits of free software is that it allows a great amount of collaboration and code reuse, but incompatible licences drive a wedge right through that. The fact is, Sun has not greatly endeared themselves to quite a large number of folks through creation of Yet Another Licence. That's an interesting point. (I think Firefox is rubbish, but I'm clearly in a minority!) One difference between Firefox and OpenSolaris is that Mozilla-Firefox do have quite a large community of contributors in addition to its corporate backing. OpenSolaris has yet to achieve this, and I wish it success in doing so. A growing problem is with programs open-sourced by corporations which subsequently abandon them, leaving them in an unmaintained limbo. As an example, I came across a problem with libupnp last night for over two years and three months. If I was to fix the bug, to whom do I submit patches, or am I wasting my time? In this respect, corporate-sponsored projects are rather more likely to fail than all-volunteer ones: volunteers tend to have rather longer-term commitments, and they don't get abandoned when corporate sponsorship (Intel, in this case) dries up, or employees are rebuttigned. Without a dedicated team of contributors outside Sun's payroll, OpenSolaris will be tied to and be dependent upon Sun for life support, and hence will have a lowered chance of long-term survival. Filesystem performance overheads 4209 sg You will probably have to do this with your own machine under the conditions you are really running under with the programs that really concern...
