Opinion on best system to run Linux 7239On Tue, 20 Dec 2005 19:59:23 -0500, General Schvantzkoph My brother had a lot of problems with the nforce 4 audio on board chipset We tried ubuntu and my pers favorite slackware 10.2. All were incapable of producing sound out of the box (nvsound module didn't produce any sound, got it compiled though). We added a pci soudblaster 128 in there and after some easy changes sound worked. It's still muted at start-up but well thats on the 4 miles long TODO list :) my advice is don't be on the uber cutting-edge because: a) there are no drivers, and you may not except any in a long time because manufacturer does not reveal the exact specs (u can wait till somebody reverse-engineered the driver but that can take some time and will not happen if u really have exotic hardware) Software for Automated Backups Hi all, I'm looking for a Linux software to do simple automated backing-up of some of my files... b) drivers just suck and manufacturer's main focus is on the M$ platform if u really want hardware accelerated graphics (these drivers are allmost on par with the windoze ones) c) inform yourself before you purchase: eg if u want a tv tuner card ... google on linux supported tv tuner cards and subscribe to the video4linux mailinglist, ...
