Linux works just fine, even better than 'doze. Lets take a printer installation. Linux: plug it in, "Would you like to configure printer model here Now?", yes, "Would you like to print a test page", yes, oh look, there it is!
Windoze: plug it in, "New Hardware Detected", "Searching the database", "No drivers found", "Installed as: Unknown Device", find the driver, find the docs for the driver, find out you were supposed to install the driver first, curse a while, weeks later have a printer that sort of works.
The choice is clear. If you're stupid, get a mac*. If you have at least a brain stem, get Linux.
