PCLinuxOS 1626On Friday 16 June 2006 03:32, Rick stood up and spoke the following words to the mbuttes incomp.os.linux.misc...: Haven't tried it out yet myself, but I'll do my best based upon what I've read about it... ;-) I'm not sure, but I believe it would be trivial to install. PCLinuxOS is based upon Mandriva, and Mandriva does traditionally offer WindowMaker among the window managers. Linux is horrible. 1627 On Thu, 15 Jun 2006 20:13:37 -0700, carlos.linux Just leave! Don't tell me why! Don Pardo: Ladies and gentlemen, Richard Pryor! Richard... My guess is that you could - if need be - install Mandriva's WindowMaker in PCLinuxOS. As it is based on Mandriva, PCLinuxOS probably hasurpmias the package manager back-end, and this deals very well with dependencies. I haven't come across any reports of problems in this respect yet. ;-) As for third party repositories... I think you'll find a lot of useful - but not GPL'ed - stuff on PLF - that's the Penguin Liberation Front. And like Ubuntu-Kubuntu with Debian, PCLinuxOS has Mandriva repositories to fall back on. Yes, I believe so. Most likely one that is based upon - if not copied from - Mandriva's Control Center. That should not be any problem. I've heard of custom parbreastioning layouts in PCLinuxOS before, so I'd be surprised if the installer itself would not already offer this as a choice. From what I've heard, yes. This is a Mandriva-MandrakeSoft legacy, and they've always been very good at setting up both KDE and Gnome on the same system without any conflicts in configuration. This I can't really answer... :- Not so much, and surely a lot less than with Ubuntu-Kubuntu, (Open)SuSE or Fedora Core. In fact, the people posting about problems with PCLinuxOS are by far in the minority, compared to other distributions - again, Fedora-RedHat and (Open)SuSE score highly there. Hope this was useful... :-) -- With kind regards, Linux is horrible. 1629 BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Kier Indeed, I rarely leave the house without it (it's saved me and others... *Aragorn* (Registered GNU-Linux user #223157)
