In SUSE 9.3, I had to create a link using ln to my usb device. Check out dmesg just after you press the HotSync button. How to make sure character set is portable We are a software development company which develops application that runs on a few platforms. Currently it runs... $ dmesg grep -i usb By default, most Linux synchronization software looks for the HotSync port ondev-pilot, so the first thing you'll want to do is make a hard link (using the ln command). You may need to make a directory indev for pilot. How do I determine what is in hda1 following words to the mbuttes incomp.os.linux.misc...: Hmm... You're using a swapfile rather than a swap parbreastion? These three would... $ cddev$ mkdir pilot Create a link todev-pilot like so: $ lndev-usb0dev-pilot Make sure you use whatever device you actually found in dmesg. If you didn't see anything, use "dmesgtail" instead of grep. Enter the command ls -ldev-pilot to ensure you set the link correctly. If you receive an error message, make sure you are logged on as root. Once you've created thedev-pilot link, try a simple command to tell whether you've got your Palm talking to Linux. Place the Palm in its cradle, make sure the cradle is connected, and enter the command pilot-xfer -l. Accept the prompt to press the HotSync button on your Palm's cradle to get a list of the databases and programs installed on the Palm.
