Lizards produce many eggs, humans few. It's a different strategy. Lizards don't gain from investing energy in their young because to do so would limit their capacity to produce more young (this is nearly always a male option).

Sure - but the human one is known. The female produces few young, and both parents look after them - in economically advanced countries. In poor countries there is a threshold below which it is advantageous to produce many young and let them look after you.
