Please don't feed the trollsIn the Usenet newsgroup comp.os.linux.misc, in article Debian dissapointment 4582 Haven't opened the box to check chips yet ( or is there software way to do so ?) but here's results of some of the checks requested. I suspect... which isn't present in the alt.os.linux.mandrake posting Now that you point that out, I can see it (although the version posted in a.o.l.m on the 27th was 'Netiquette 2005-06#2'), but I certainly did not recognize that as a version or revision number. The general FAQs that I see in other groups (those that tend to be archived at rtfm.mit.edu or similar) have the version data in the first screenful of the body. Putting this in a header isn't quite as practical, as most people don't view all headers while reading news. I had to dig to find this - I've got this one end because the FAQ is unmaintained (and has been superseded at sunsite inpub-linux-docs-faqs-) and is useless: Debian dissapointment 4583 staggered into the Black Sun and said: lspci *is* the way to find complete information about everything that's on the PCI bus. You may need a newer kernel, as well... Archive-Name: linux-faq-part1 Posting-Frequency: weekly Last-modified: 12-04-2001 and I still don't know why it's being posted. (Still, the FAQs posted to comp.unix.* are even older.) The point being that the "Last-modified:" line stands out like a sore thumb, and I can make an immediate decision whether to read it or not. Likewise, putting the version data at the end of a 340 line post also is a bit counter-productive, as I usually don't have time to read all articles, never mind scan to the end of each. Old guy
