Possible muckup in Debian 3.1r2Re:usrbinld: cannot find lICE Thanks for the response. Here : make2: Entering directory `-usr-local-src-gwyddion-1.16-libgwydgets'bin-sh ..-libtool --tag=CC --mode=link gcc -DGWYDDIONCOMPILATION -Wall -W -Wshadow -Wpointer-arith -Werror... Hello, We downloaded the Debian 3.1r2 dvd iso images since we needed to create our own repository. I created the Packages file by executing "apt-ftparchive packages ." command. The dvd-s also have their set of Packages files, and those and ours don't match. For example, when I use our Packages file, then apbreastude's "Tasks" has only the "Unrecognized tasks" submenu. When I use the Packages file from the dvd-s, then the "Tasks" has the "End-user", "Localization", and "Servers" submenus as well. Also, if using our Packages file, then out of the approximately 16000 packages, some 20 shows up as "Unknown" since the "Section" section (as well as the Priority) is missing. One such example is the nec package. These sections are present in the Debian provided Packages file (at least for the nec package). Another thing. The zsh-doc (and others, too) has a Section discrepancy. Our Packages file (which was generated from the .deb files on the dvd) says that zsh-doc is in the "shells" Section, but the Debian provided Packages file says that it belongs to the "doc" Section. I am still looking if there are any other discrepancies. It seems that the Packages files provided by Debian on the dvd-s don't match the contents of the dvd-s. (I downloaded the nec package from www.debian.org, and that file and the one from the dvd are identical). Is it possible that their Packages files were generated from a different set of .deb files? Not from the ones that make up Debian 3.1r2? If so, then it is a pretty serious muck-up. Thanks, Vilmos
