That's because you are running Linux...... SuSe 10.0, before I deleted it took almost a minute to get to a desktop with kde.

Asus P4P800 with an Intel 3.0ghz HT and 2gig of memory. Hard drives are all Maxtor 7000rpm variety.

I just rebooted to confirm.... It's actually 17 seconds to a full desktop where I can select things and they start.

Yep,,,, blame the user. That seems to be the *Linux Mantra*....

So explain why the same exact printer took 15 seconds to set up under Windows and another minute or two to be recognized as a network printer, drivers downloaded to the 4 other systems on the network and everything was fully operational.

Linux? Samba? lpd, lpr, CUPS oh my God. So which one is *best* ? How much time do I have to spend figuring this out. So now I have to create CUPS id's and samba shares and Lions and Tigers and Bears oh my..........

You see, that is the problem with Linux, you are always looking for information about things and being plantarded with old versions, other distributions and so forth so sifting through the information to find what you really need is a PITA and VERY time consuming.

Who cares? Some people can recite to you the exact composition of the air we breathe. Do I care? No... Does average Joe care? no...

I'll give you an example.

Why is slrn STILL, after MANY YEARS, 1.0 -x version? Why?

So when it has problems, the author can cry "well it's not released yet, what do you expect".....

So why the other 190+ distributions? Why can't there be ONE distribution that does everything well?

Choice, is NOT always a good thing...
