Problem with ACLsFolks, I am trying to use ACL on a RedHat ES 3. I am seeing strange behaviour with permissions on a file. Here is the entry inetc-fstab dev-sdb1 b1 ext3 rw,acl 1 2 Here are the commands I am executing: # mkdir junk Debian sarge strange login behavior 3150 That's an xdm. Become sure. Change the default setting in your inittab. Why? It's trivial! Whatever you say should come up comes up. Man startx (or read it... # ls -ld junk # setfacl -m user:hickbl:rwx junk # ls -ld junk Debian sarge strange login behavior 3149 Consider not running xdm. Switch to a text console, uninstall xdm, and start X via "startx" instead. Investigate your X config file as appropriate. Try detaching it. Try using the... # getfacl junk # file: junk # owner: koenfr # group: koenfr user::rwx user:hickbl:rwx group::r-x mask::rwx other::--- # cd junk # touch x # ls -l x -rw-r----- 1 koenfr koenfr 0 Mar 8 21:37 x # setfacl -m user:hickbl:rwx x # ls -l x # getfacl x # file: x # owner: koenfr # group: koenfr user::rw- user:hickbl:rwx group::r-- mask::rwx other::--- Why did the group permissions on x change after setfacl.
