I have both Mozilla (1.4) as well as Mozilla Firefox (1.5) installed as browsers. A few days back, due to some problem, Firefox suddenly shut down, and when I tried to restart it, it gave the following message:

Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system.

I work on a Linux terminal, and hence, have no access to restart the main 'system', nor do I have the root pbuttword.

To kill the running Firefox process and restart it, I did 'ps -u amit' (amit is my username) to lookout for the PID of Firefox so that I could kill it and restart the browser, but ps -u is not showing Firefox in the process list. This is what it shows:

PID TTY TIME CMD 7813 ? 00:00:01 gconfd-2 7815 ? 00:00:00 bonobo-activati 8549 ? 00:00:01 evolution-womba 21917 ? 00:00:00 evolution-ldif- 30261 ? 00:00:00 gnome-session 30390 ? 00:00:00 utslaunch 30400 ? 00:00:00 utaction 30412 ? 00:00:00 ssh-agent 30438 ? 00:00:01 metacity 30440 ? 00:00:00 magicdev 30442 ? 00:00:02 nautilus 30444 ? 00:00:01 gnome-panel 30446 ? 00:00:00 evolution-alarm 30448 ? 00:00:00 pam-panel-icon 30450 ? 00:00:00 rhn-applet-gui 30517 ? 00:00:00 gnome-terminal 30519 ? 00:00:00 gnome-pty-helpe 30520 pts-30 00:00:00 csh 30629 ? 00:00:01 evolution 3068 plus 11 ? 00:00:04 mozilla-bin 31110 pts-30 00:00:00 ps

Currently I am using the Mozilla browser, but I'd rather prefer Firefox. If anyone could tell me how to kill the running Firefox process given the above info, it'd be a big help.

Thanks in advance, Amit.
