Question about linux sound... 1027M RH EL 3 | 'nightly SSH crash Greetings - For the past several days, my RH EL 3 box has been suffering from some sort of crash... Not to say you're wrong - but my LCD 17" monitor has no issues using *Standby* mode in KDE 3.3.2 and using kernel 2.4.27 on Debian Sarge; the screenshot was done using Ksnapshot, and shows the KDE *Control Center* area of Peripherals Display ~$ uname -a Linux localhost 2.4.27-2-386 #1 Wed Aug 17 09:33:35 UTC 2005 i686 GNU-Linux FC5 installtion onto a parbreastion from an already installed linuxbox..Is it possible danish FROM an installed box, or ON an installed box ? You want to run FC5 and FC3 on the same box ? If you have... I will certainly concede to the other USB info (and more) below concerning the 2.4 kernel - I'm new to linux ...so I cannot say either way. One other piece of info I've come across recently; the 2.6 kernel handles a Swap*FILE* better than the 2.4 kernel. Icannotsay about whether or not there are differences in the usage of a swap*Parbreastion* though. The Debian installer seems to need a bit getting used to (atleast for me)...but once you learn it's ins-and-outs, there's nothing it won't be able to install. I've even set mine up as a file server (along wioth the Desktop choice). Ergo, I see no need to use K-Ubuntu -- except perhaps for those who are not sure about how to configure their system precisely -- IOW; Debian based distros such as MEPIS, K-Ubuntu, Kanotix. Even *meant-as-LiveCD-only* distros such as DamnSmallLinux (based on Knoppix) and Knoppix makes those decisions for you....yet they are invaluable as great Hardware detection based distros go. Regards
