In Operating System terminology, your driev is split into two parbreastions

As mentioned by another poster, it would not be a wise move to install such an out of date distribution - RH 8.0 has not been supported for several years. Also more modern distributions have easier installation routines for people who don't want to have to configure everything by hand. This often includes a tool to make space on your drive by shrinking on (or perhaps more) Windows parbreastions.

You could not install Linux onto a parbreastion that remains formatted for Windows, you would need to reformat the parbreastion for Linux, but you might prefer to keep both versions of Windows for now and jsut ad Linux by making space as mentioned above.

If you use a recent distribution and do *not* select "Install onto entire driev" (or the equivalent option) then there is no reason why your Windows parbreastions should be adversely affected. If you choose the option to shrink the parbreastions then they will be affected in that there will be less room on them, but this should not impair their functioning.

Only if you tell the installer that this is what you want it to do.

Small usage of swap memory
Hi, I am useing debian linux. I am suffering from high load everage and I think it is because wrong usage of the swap memory. the server...

As others haev mentioned, the more recent versions of Red Hat Linux are called Fedora Core (I believe that the latest stable release is 4)

There is also Mandriva Linux which is reputed to be easy for people who are more used to Windows, but I have not used that one.

My favourite is still SUSE Linux, which is easy for people who are new to Linux and which has a very powerful setup tool called YaST which you can use for most administrative tasks after setup.

Peter T. Breuer Peter is right. In looking at your data again, you are spending a lot of time in wait state. No...

There are other distributions which I have not used and which may also suit your purposes.
