Refresh system devicesRefresh system devices 371 On 8 Feb 2006 14:57:46 -0800, hobbzilla staggered into the Black Sun and said: 100 G over 100bT Ethernet ... lessee, figure about 4.5M-s... Is there someway to refresh the system devices wihtout doing a reboot? Here is what I am doing. You can comment all you want on how foolish it is to use a hot-swappable SCSI drive as an easy way to transfer large file across separate systems. Unfortunately I had over 100GB of data and do not have a way (other than the network) to transfer these files (no large usb drive, etc. etc) -- letting me know this is dumb will still not answer my quetsion. :) I have 3 servers with internal Raid controllers. While the pc was powered on, I added a drive. Using the command line array configuration utility I created a new RAID0 array for that one drive (It wouldn't let me just use it as a standalone drive - go figure). Needless to say, I created a parbreastion with 'fdiskdev-cciss-c0d1' and then accidentally made the filesystem on c0d1 instead of c0d1p1 (it didn't complain and did in fact work... perhaps due to the fact that c0d1p1 was a primary parbreastion that spanned the entire disk -- who knows?) I then mounteddev-c0d1 intomnt-tmp and copied files over to it. Then unmounted it. I did the same (except for the fdisking & mkfs) for 2 other systems with the same drive. Adding to the information on the drive each time. I forgot something on the 2nd system so I hot-swapped it back up and the array utility saw the 2nd array (raid0) again.. however when I tried to remount it mountdev-c0d1mnt-tmp it told me I must supply the fs type. I did.. still no go. I then tried to simply see if fdiskdev-c0d1 would pull it up and see that it had a single primary parbreastion. fdisk reported to me: Unable to open c0d1. Do you know what a News Group is? How about a... Is there a way to get this to work without restarting the entire server? Thank you in advance!
