No. My above statement still holds...

Don't worry we've all been there :-)

Yes.

Not sure what you mean by 'mix'?

Close ;-) Once you've got the free space fromdev-hda1 you'll need to create an extended parbreastion with three logical parbreastions forhome, swap and freedos. They will be calleddev-hda5,dev-hda6 anddev-hda7 - they won't be 'in'.

Indeed you do! TBH I've done this myself before with no problems, but be warned there is a very real risk of losing *all* your data. In the above scheme youcouldleavehome where it is and move the data over after you've created a new, largerhome, but this won't be any safer :-( and you'll be left with a spare 2Gb parbreastion (freedos maybe?). Actually thinking about it, that's a bad idea as you won't be able to make the best use of the free space - just movehome to and delete thehome, swap and freedos parbreastions and recreate them as extended ones.

Hi This is a strange problem that I really hope someone here can answer: Updated from Debian Sarge to Etch, I just...

Sure. There are floppy or pendrive distros of linux which will have parbreastion editing tools, but they will be all commandline driven no fancy guis - Damn Small Linux is an exception.

It doesn't have to be an Ubuntu CD most, if not all, the live distros have a gui parbreastion manager. Sytemrescuecd is also a good option.

should do it. This is only for fixed disks, for CD-DVD backup you need different tools.

Yes and broadband ;-) I only recently took the plunge and I certainly wouldn't go back to dial-up!
