Scanner not recognized in SUSE 10.1 Approved: jackstrangio__at__yahoo_comTo follow up a previous post, I found this on usenet. It may or may not be useful to you. (FWIW, I'd try to get a slightly newer controller card off ebay, rather than use that old one.) Groups: comp.os.linux.setup I posted this news group requesting a solution to getting the above card to work This is finally how I got it to work pressure Google to put Groups back on main page...* 2092 Why don't we club Google to allow us to format whatever we want on our home page? Someone doesn't read me because I post from google... WAAAAAAAHHHHH! I would prefer slrn... Thisis actually a mail to another user so ignore specific comments to him =========================================================== well finally after much work I eventually got my Adaptec AVA-1505AE PNP SCSI card to work. This is how ; 1. I installed the card in a WIN 95 machine and ran the configuration program which is down loadable form the Adpatec (www.adaptec.com) This allowed me to set turn off pnp and set the IRQ manually.. (You could probably just as easy use a dos boot disk in your linux machine with the config utility copied on to it, as it is a dos based utility.) Scanner not recognized in SUSE 10.1 2088 On 18 Aug 2006 12:31:34 -0700, toronado455 staggered into the Black Sun and said: No SCSI... I set the jumper on the board so the io port was 0x140h 2. Finding spare irq's in my Linux machine took some time, I have a pretty new motherboard (SOYO-6KBE). The bios allowed me reserve certain irqs for legacy ISA cards as my 1505 isan ISA card. I chose a 11 as this is the irq I had chosen using the config utility above. Note: I also disabled anything I wasn't using on the motherboard in order to free up a few IRQs ( this included the two on board serial interfaces) To find out which IRQ's were used on my linux machine I typed cd lpr interrupts (prints off the file) IRQ 3 did not show up, this was used by my internal modem scan carefully through this file and highlight the IRQs used, this should help identify a free IRQ. Don't worry if two PCI devices have the same IRQ as they have some way of sharing them I also removed all boards I could from the machine to avoid conflict problems until I got the 1505 recognised Next I recompiled my kernel with the Adaptec AHA152x-2825 support (your card needs the same module) as a module and installed the kernel and new modules. Where is my mouse Debian sarge-stable still uses XFree86. The next release, etch, will have Xorg. That doesn't... (I tried to compile the driver into the kernel and use boot parameters but when I done this the kernel failed to find my other SCSI card which had my boot drive) Turn off pC Next connect zip drive or scanner to the card Restart machine Next I edited theetc-conf.modules file by adding : alias scsihostadaptor aha152x options aha152x aha152x=0x140h,11 Note: 0x140h is my io port address and 11 is the IRQ I buttigned to the card. Now type : modprobe aha152x to see if the card was recognised type lessproc-scsi-scsi You should now see your connected device listed here pressure Google to put Groups back on main page...* 2093 On Thursday 17 August 2006 07:38, Chris F.A. Johnson stood up and spoke the following words to the mbuttes incomp.os.linux.misc...: ... Or better still...: one... to mount a zip disk type: mount -t vfat dev-sdb4 mnt (Zip disks use partion 4 by default, use sda4 if this is only SCSI drive ) If you want to change devices on the fly unmount any device you are using and type rmmod aha152x now plug in zip drive or scanner etc and reload driver by typeing : modprobe aha152x I am loading this module manually as I need it until I find away to get it loaded automatically when I need it this will do. If you need any more clarification or help E-mail me regards Noel HTH Jack -- Once, they feared you. Then they matched you. Now they are laughing at you. Soon they will ignore you. You have lost. pressure Google to put Groups back on main page Post top don't please. 08-16-2006 Why? So stop going to the google home page. Are you using a browser that doesn't support bookmarks? Is this really the most serious problem...
