My school accepts Linux but
I attend RPI and the official operating system for students is Windows however, we do have the...

That's funny. I run RHEL 3(.5) and keep it up to date with the up2date program on Red Hat Network. It never turned on selinux or ran the audit software. (I do run tripwire, but that's another story.)

I have not tried RHEL 4. I do not really have a spare machine to try it on. I suppose I could put it onto my old machine where I now have RHL9, but technically I am not licensed to run two copies of RHEL, so I should not do it. Of course if it is only for a little while for test purposes, I am sure I would get away with it.

I choose to run GRUB anyway, so if I upgrade to RHEL 4, it will not matter to me. I am likely to skip RHEL 4 and maybe take RHEL 5. I hate installing new distributions because while the install takes only an hour or two, diddling all the configuration files generally takes me about a month to get things working right again. One advantage to RHEL distributions, you need only upgrade about once every 5 years, though you can do it about every 18 months if you want to.
