For one thing, there are no professionally recognized audio applications that run under it. If someone calls me up to book a session and asks if I have ProTools and I say "No, but I have Ardour" he'll look for another studio. Linux is for hobbyists and for serious developers who can afford the time to build and maintain their systems at the code level.

People argue that analog tape decks require a lot of maintenance so they don't want to use them. Your questions about whether I've ever compiled my own kernel suggests that Linux is an appropriate system for people who have taken the time to learn how to do that, and how to make it work. I'm too old for that. I want something that I can install off the shelf and start using without compiling anything.
