Hi Schraalhans, Yes you're right. I checked the man pages for halt & shutdown and found that unless the system is in runlevel 0 or 6 and halt is called, shutdown is invoked instead. Also I found out that shutdown has an option, -P, which causes the environment variable INITHALT to be set to POWEROFF. Probably this (shutdown -hP now) will do the shutdown job... I also switched to a console and issued a reboot command to see if any error messages were being reported but figure out anything. The last message displayed on the console is something like "Synchronizing SCSI disks"... I also checkedvar-log-messages but the only error message I saw is: ...
