What i want to do is to backup some files (and directories) to a USB... find will do this. Many programs will do this. If I had to use free software, I would prefer cpio, and that is what I used to use. I now use BRU instead, but you do not have to. Well, you will sure get an error message if there is no such device (or if you were using a tape drive, if there were no tape in the drive, or if the tape were write-inhibited). But the messages will not be much use because if you are like me, you will be asleep, or on vacation or something, when the backups take place. One of the nice things about cron is that it can do backups when you are not present at your machine so the machine can be as idle as it will ever be, and least likely to annoy anyone. Network configuration DHCP with a static alternative I have a rackmount server which I'm soon going to be colocating. Currently it's connected to my home network, configured using DHCP, and I'm working on it from my...
