Splitting a parbreastion

Hi there,

I have a 80 GB harddisk split in 3:

hdb1 20 GB hdb2 20 GB hdb3 40 GB.

I'd like to split hdb1 in 0.5-1.5-18 GB to haveboot, swap and to update my distro without loosing my current version which is on hda.

I know I have to make a extended parbreastion and create 3 logical parbreastions from it.

I attend university and since I never really knew much about Linux until my past summer holiday...

The question is: Can I do that without erasing what's on hdb2 and hdb3? (I have no room anywhere to backup all this stuff. And I'll need months to burn it!)

I tried with fdisk but it put the logical parbreastions after the primary parbreastions i.e. it wanted to do:

dev-hdb1 Extendeddev-hdb2dev-hdb3dev-hdb5 Logical 1dev-hdb6 Logical 2dev-hdb7 Logical 3

It looked very weird to me although the start and end blocks were set correctly. I also didn't write this parbreastion table because I haven't been able to find up-to-date info about whether or not fdisk will erase all the datas on the harddisk.

Josh All, I know I shouldn't respond to TROLLS, but hey, its a slow day... :-P And of course, this...

I also tried GNU Parted but I end it without doing anything. It looked like dangerous, unsafe... and rather obscurous. Besides it refused to touch my ReiserFS parbreastions.

So, what can I do?
