On Monday 17 April 2006 00:23, Michael Heiming stood up and spoke the following words to the mbuttes incomp.os.linux.misc...:

I rather have the impression that they think *all* of Usenet is a forum on Google Groups... :-

OT Don't Help The Trolls was: Distro woos
Posting through aioe.org with a throwaway alias. TROLL. Trolls deserve to have computer woes. (Not "woos...

We've actually been discussing this very same thing onA.O.L.M.just a few days ago...

My suggestion would be to include a section in the FAQ about what Usenet is and how it is not related to Google, and how badly broken the Google Groups posting interface is, preferably near the top of the FAQ, and to post the FAQ not bi-weekly, but more like twice a week.

On a newsgroup with as much traffic ascomp.os.linux.misc,such a high posting frequency would not be an excessive luxury, but rather a necessity.

I'm repeating myself, but just as if it wasn't bad enough that Microsoft Windows actually breeds ignorance and incorrect technical verbage, Google just had to go and dumb the newbie down even more... :-

Microsoft turned computers into household appliances with limited functionality and poor stability, and people accepted it. Microsoft also installs MSN on every Windows PC, and it end IRC.

Now Google comes along and acts just like Usenet is some web-based forum, throwing away allNetiquettein the process. Does Usenet everything decent really have to die because of those two monopolizing companies? :-

Further more, does anyone out there actually still have high hopes for the human race? :-
