Stop KDE from launching at boot Ok GREAT kind ofOK.......so I rebooted after 'apt-get install kdm' and !shazam! - I now have a GUI login prompt (rather than CLI prompt as before) -- BUT; Stop KDE from launching at boot 475 Robert M. Riches Jr. I guess KDM, since I had a terrible time even getting all of KDE installed to the point where... I still needed to logout and run 'init 6' and then type in my user pbuttwd to reboot (I had been using 'shutdown -r now', but 'init 6' is less typing ;-)) BUT -- after Rebooting and then having to "select" the 1 and only $USER, in the GUI login (btw - which was stuck in german only, when i futzed with a knoppix HDD install) -- and then typing in pbuttwd, I booted into KDE :-) For brevity's sake, I rebooted after posting in the thread and running 'apt-get install kde' -- and I was presented with a GUI login as opposed to a CLI login (as before) -- yet right away, I edited sudoers, using visudo as root, and changed the line; # User privilege specification root ALL=(ALL) ALL to; root ALL=(ALL) ALL However after editing and verifying the changes, I rebooted -- and all that occured was that my USERNAME was already entered into the GUI login box (rather than me having to 'select' it from the list of One choice -- whoopie)...I still had to type in my pbuttwd. Note ; I do NOT now need to enter my pbuttwd when using sudo in a konsole-terminal (I previously always had to enter my pbuttwd, whenever invoking sudo)........, but it's all ok now;-)
