comp.os.linux.misc -

This is my first time posting to a Linux group, so please let me know if there's a better place to put this. I'm pretty new with Linux and have been messing around with info and grep. I'm trying to write a little script that will quickly give me what I'm looking for in info.

In this example, I'm looking for information about using the color option in grep. I tried it with man (instead of info), but there's no hit because of the backspace escapes (^H). Here's the command and output:

$ info grep grep color

info: Writing node (grep.info.gz)Top... info: Writing node (grep.info.gz)Introduction... info: Writing node (grep.info.gz)Invoking... `--color=WHEN' info: Writing node (grep.info.gz)Diagnostics... info: Writing node (grep.info.gz)Grep Programs... info: Writing node (grep.info.gz)Regular Expressions... info: Writing node (grep.info.gz)Usage... info: Writing node (grep.info.gz)Reporting Bugs... info: Writing node (grep.info.gz)Copying... info: Writing node (grep.info.gz)GNU General Public License... info: Writing node (grep.info.gz)GNU Free Documentation License... info: Writing node (grep.info.gz)Concept Index... info: Writing node (grep.info.gz)Index... * highlight, color, colour: Invoking. info: Done.

The two entries I'm looking for are in there, but I'd like to get rid of the logging information. Any ideas?
