Suse 10.1 Looks Like a plant....Not da' plant....... Sender: Linux
Well I'll throw in, that there is a custom version of OpenSuSE which is compiled to run only on i686, and it is faster than the standard version. FWIW, I switched to Slackware awhile back, not so much because of speed, but SuSE's rpm dependencies just installed too many programs which I didn't need. I like to control every script, but I can see why SuSE does it the way it does, to make it easy to use for people coming from windows. BUT.... I still keep a version of SuSE around, because it generally will install and set itself up easily, which I use to test new equipment. It's real advantage is that it comes with 5 cd's full of programs, so you don't need to go online to get and try things out. Each distro appeals to a certain user type, so you just need to chose the one that is right for you. But criticizing a certain distro because it dosn't run as fast as possible on your machine, is just an opinion. I'm sure PCLinuxOS runs great too.
