Linux does provide everything
Hi. Yes. Linux does provide everything windows does, and more. The installation process is just often slightly more tedious, and there is a learning curve if...

Don't know about the distros, but swsusp2 is available as a patch to the current kernel, works great here on this Dell Laptop (which has poor ACPI support) Note that swsusp is part of the stock kernel, and swsusp2 is a different (and imho, better) project.

yes, it's even theoretically possible to move the disk to a new machine, and unsuspend there *providing* that the hardware is identical, an almost impossible task, but theoretically possible.

Just some of the Linux myths exposed Why so many distributions? The Linux weirdos would like you to believe that...

No, you can use the existing swap parbreastion, or a specific one, you can also boot *without* resuming, although there are obviously issues with filesystem consistancy. Theoretically you can resume to multiple swap parbreastions, and boot from any of them, again, with caveats regarding filesystem integrity. Sounds useless, but in a kiosk system, with no fixed storage other than the swap-resume parbreastion, it might be useful, sort of a fast live CD type distro.

2.6 supports swsusp, but It may or may not work with your hardware, try

I don't know how well swsusp2 works on 2.4, but I do believe that it has been backported, but I have no experience with it.
