first of all, let me call it as I see it: thou art a troll!

Phillip Cornwallis

and who says this (other than you)?

The Linux Advocates Playbook Revealed! 3342
Phillip Cornwallis wrote something like: Yep, their are a lot of trolls and other social misfits on here and they do a large portion of the posting. Seems to be a few...

hmmmmmmmmm. interesting. you also left out: costs less, more available "free" apps, will work on most any platform, etc......

I don't have a lot of choices myself (being blind and all). the CLI is the place where I live most of the time. sure, this client I am using exists in the GUI, but then, I have a speech program that works with it. Still, I much preferr the use of CLI when I can as there are no distractiosn and no mouse to confuse me.

gee, why does this sound like the very tactic you are using IN THIS VERY POST?

each flavor has its own quirks. The differences are trivial as most all of them use the same kernel tree (or its platform equivalent).

and I don't see why I should have to pay more than $200 for a buggy GUI OS (you can name it as I don't need to) that has more security holes than swiss cheese and core dumps routinely without even requiring input from a user.....

hmmmmmm. well, mine works with all of the above (and a few you did not mention). my scanner works with it using a scsi card, my USB memory storage devices all work without installing new drivers, the sound card produces 5.1 surround signalling and does so without any performance hits to the cpu, the video device works (as I have been informed by my sighted room mates), and even my speech and braille interfaces work WITHOUT FAIL. I tried using "the other guys" (aka the redmond company that shall remain nameless), but after having 1 app break 3 others, getting no help on tech support without having to pay $65.00 USD-hour and generally dealing with poor design, I ended up back in linux (where everything works as it should).

spouting opinions again?

gee, my posting here is sufficient proof that my system does, in fact, work. I am playing a talking book on the other tty using mph123 (the talking book is ben bova's The silent war - book 2), and I am also carrying on a conversation in irc on a 3rd tty (using the braille output device hooked into the printer port). I ask you this, where is your proof that it does work? sounds a lot like "he said, she said" to me.

and you had to go and mention them (took you long enough). personally, I could care less about them. Their product doesn't meet my needs (nor, does it seem, the governments in the lot of places in South America and the EU).

why, when they have you to speak for them?
