As stated, "MS won't disclose specs". It is *Microsoft* that lags in interoperability, not Open Source.

The Linux Revolution: What Happened 4331
On comp.os.linux.misc, in Keller" One thing is clear. These guys aren't very bright. This conversation has nothing to do with the topic of this thread. Or is it that...

That's a Microsoft problem...

Only because Microsoft has a monopoly on certain, but not all, consumer and enterprise computing sectors is that problem ubiquitous and present itself as Linux not keeping up with the efforts of Microsoft's monopolist business plan to squirm away from solutions.

However, in another 5-10 years the tables will turn, and in order to stay in business Microsoft will be *forced* to interoperate with open source solutions. It requires an intrinsic change which consbreastutes a major transition what will affect *everything* Microsoft does.

When that type of transition begins there is invariably a great deal of kicking and screaming by those who will lose positions of strength. (Remember the period from 1992 to 1997, when *every* "ink on paper" publisher was bad mouthing the Internet with all they could muster? Today they *all* make maximum use of the Internet...)

The signal that the transition has started is widespread emotional "kicking and screaming" by those who will change (or disappear)!

That *is* exactly what Microsoft is doing *today*. Hence it seems the transition period is here, now.
