It's not a lack of trying that she claims is the problem (she is cute and gets hit on plenty), its that most guys don't seem to make even a minimal effort to improve their appearance and behavior in ways that might actually attract a woman, or they completely misunderstand what women are really looking for.

The problem, as I see it, is that men too often treat every experience with a new woman as an opportunity to mate, while women are more often looking for companionship. The two are not incompatible (and in fact are very complimentary) but the different focus tends to start thing out on the wrong foot. Men 'try too hard' to attract a woman and end up seeming fake and-or desperate. Nothing will chase a woman away faster.

A better approach is to treat the women you meet as people first, and potential romantic partners second. Have real conversations about things that really interest both of you. Form real friendships. Find social activities that allow connection at a personal level. Do volunteer work. Join a writing workshop. Become a person that 'you' like better, and women will like you better also.
