The Reasons I hate M$ and Love Open Source SoftwareYum y updating of a PRODUCTION WebServer On Fri, 11 Mar 2005 19:56:29 +0100, Michael Heiming thoughtfully #1 The OP asked if it is better to disable automatic yum updates to avoid potential problems to... Installed Fedora 3 Core thanx. I was able to find both mysql and PHP, but apache seems to have NOT been installed :o( But if I do a "locate apache" I see all... Those who rely on M$ software always seem to get burned. When I was a M$ customer, they burned me by discontinuing to provide useful functionality which I paid money for. I then paid additional money to M$ which they gladly accepted, but for nothing in return. So I spent $245 dollars on a M$ Windows OS boxed set and then some more on software so I could do something useful with my new M$ OS. Without the additional software, I was stuck with a worthless OS "professional" boxed set, plus I didnt get any useful software, just an operating system. That is when I became angry and knew M$ is crap. They made a fool out of me in front of my boss for recommending M$. Well, never again, because you can only fool me once. I looked at Microsoft's track record of providing crappy support. MS gives you 7 years of free updates to fix all the bugs and malware. Actually, Windows 95 could have become Windows 98 almost if you applied all the updates available for free. I almost got fired from my job when we switched to M$ from Linux. Now once again it is happening with Mozilla. All those exceptional folks who recommended that companies switch from IE to Mozilla (Firefox) are reaping the benefits of increased productivity and a reduction in malware and adware popups. Of course, those using IE are going to continue to get burned. Maybe even as badly as those who recommended M$ and their software. It looks like M$ cannot find people to build a quality browser, so you're stuck with IE. No one at M$ wants to take responsiblity for it. Eventually, like communism, the M$ closed model will collapse as people discover they need to feed their families. Open Source, as you know, delivers functional and useful software to the public, most free for a download. And, you can get the basic necessities like functional applications such as an OS and browser (which, fortunately, cannot run any bloated, buggy Windows Applications), and many other very useful productivity software. What we are about to witness is the collapse of the M$ and its browser. Just like the Berlin wall, M$ IE is teetering on the brink of collapse. If you don't like MS, you can choose Linux like most smart folks. -- English literature's performing flea. - Sean O'Casey on P.G. Wodehouse
