Most impressive to me about OpenSource:

1) Generally high-quality, efficient code 2) Generally free of charge 3) Generally good karma for supporting the people of the world rather than a single corporate idenbreasty 4) These I-me-mine threads ... they make the last few minutes of the work day so pleasant! :)

Amazing to me:

1) That the damn thing runs great on any box ... even those subverted by the Intel-M$ conglomerate 2) That for some reason people who don't understand the world of Linux keep posting these kinds of threads!

Mike Cox Good thing you went for the Linux distro that's closest to Microsoft's spirit. Bob...

You bought RH7.x. They stopped supporting it. Boo-hoo. Didn't you know that the Linux community supports itself? Didn't you do any sort of investigation before switching your corporate systems over to RH7.x?

Don't you know that, if you had applied yourself and not buried your head under the comforting blanket of "distributor support" you could have been continually upgrading and securing your RH7.x distribution with free programs easily downloaded from dozens of sites .. until you were running a super-monster-person OS akin to Fedora Core 3 or better? You don't need RHN, or to spend dime one for this software.

And another thing ... when M$ "discovers" a security hole ... how long do you wait for the patch? Oh, yeah ... they don't announce the breach until they have a patch for it ... usually MONTHS after they become aware of it. When the Linux community discovers a security hole ... the patch is widely available (not just from Windows Update) within DAYS, or ... thanks to OpenSource ... you can FIX IT YOURSELF!

OpenSource is an excellent model for developing and distributing sensitive, robust and useful features culled from the minds of nearly a thousand independent thinkers working together to produce the best product they can. M$ wishes they had that kind of talent onboard, and I know they don't, because I've been to M$ ... and, sir, M$ is no Linux.
