Time to start Linuxing..some questions 2235Stanislaw Flatto Time to start Linuxing..some questions 2236 Douglas Mayne Mmm. I like the philosophy.. Still, having looked at Debian, its also very well supported and you only have to pull what... window managers apart from install it once on ScO Unix years and years ago. Once I had a screen with an X in the middle of it I pbutted it over to someone who said they knew 'all about x windows' They had in fact written several books on it, but still managed to crash a company server by editing a config file with EMACS. So I suppose that the window manager are scarcely less configurable than X windows, whose boundless flexibility allowed my erstwhile colleague to write several books and make a reasonable living by explaining all the useless things it COULD do that no one actually ever did with it? It always reminded me of trying to use a swiss army knife to spread butter..by the time you had sorted through all the possible blades, you realised that actually, none of them were long enough for the job, and perhaps something you might buy for a tenth the price called a 'butter knife' was really what you wanted.. I think window manages for me reached a peak and about windows 2.0 You could run a program in a window. Great. You didn't have to (mis) type its name. Great. Its been downhill since then...;-)
