Why is my application memory growing
Hi, I have a 64 bit 3500MHz box with 1 gig of RAM. Running SuSE 9.2. Stock kernel (2.6.8-24.16) all the latest updates. I have a problem...

Hi,

Why is my application memory growing 3520
Agreed. I don't like it. You reckon? I see that sort of usage on with amaroK on my other machine as well. The VIRT usage is way, way, lower though. Is it...

My setup is 2 hard drives, 1 EIDE the other a SATA. I have found in my bios where to make the SATA drive the primary boot drive. This was necessary because I have Linux on that drive with Windows on the other. I finally have things working to the point that GRUB no longer complains that it's "invalid or unsupported executable format" when I tell it to boot Windows.

I believe that the way the BIOS is reporting things now is that the SATA drive is hd0 (GRUB verbiage) and the EIDE drive is HD1. So, here's what I have set in my grub.conf file:

breastle Windows XP (Home Edition) # map (hd0) (hd1) # map (hd1) (hd0) rootnoverify (hd1,0) chainloader +1 boot

Before, I thought I had to use the map command (as described in the GRUB manual), but when I had the map lines uncommented the computer wouldn't do anything but stop (after dumping the above lines to stdout) at GRUB. With the map lines commented, this doesn't happen but Windows never loads. It's as if the system just goes out to lunch (which, in my humble oppinion is what usually happens when Windows loads but that's another discussion altogether :-). What should I add to this? Andy
