UBUNTU how do I do to connect me as administrator Help meUBUNTU how do I do to connect me as administrator Help me !!! 4843 Your Ubuntu machine that was installed by someone else: Hmm. I'd say that something is broken. That is not the expected, normal behaviour from an Ubuntu system. What's supposed... Michael Heiming I am having exactly this trouble with an Ubuntu machine recently installed by someone else. I have managed to get root logins allowed and can change system setting, but believe me, that is the ONLY WAY to change s.s.es! If I log in as either of the other normal users and click on, say, network setup, it asks for a pbuttword (doesn't say for whom, so I don't know), and, if I enter root pbuttword, it says incorrect pbuttword. If I say the other user's pbuttword, it says application terminated with exit 1 status. If I enter the same user's pbuttword, the question box disappears and nothing happens. I have checked the options and found that both users are permitted to run all admin options (all check boxes on). Sorry I can't explain exactly where this option is, as I am not sitting in front of the machine right now. This is one of my only two gripes about Ubuntu. I trust you, so please tell me how to NOT log on as root! all linux distros. Once upon a time, one knew where to look for settings:etc or .something files in a home directory. But none of these graphical dooda systems document where they store stuff and the formats. The longing to be just like that borked out pile of rubbish --
