Ubuntu 5.04 Uses Old RDesktop No Characters When TypingI have resolved this problem. You may be using Ubuntu 5.04. It ships with an older rdesktop that's not 1.4.x or better. You may experience either on some monitors-videocards that when you type into Notepad or some other programs that use MS Sans Serif, the characters do not appear and only appear when highlighting them. The fix is to upgrade to 1.4.x, but you will find that apt-get provides no upgrade options for this (even with universe option turned on inetc-apt-sources.list) and if you try to compile the source for 1.4.x, you'll be trapped in shared library hell for eternity. The fix is to get the Debian release of 1.4.x and install that instead. Once I did that, I found that it still didn't work until I copiedusr-bin-rdesktop tousr-bin-X11-rdesktop. (Claims it's unstable, but on the rdesktop website, it claims it's stable.) To install this once downloaded, type: Now when you use Notepad or places where MS Sans Serif is used, it will consistently, not intermittently, work. This bug was fixed in version 1.4.x, I believe.
