I am sorry that you have run into so many who would run you down. If you are interested in linux I would recommend you try the Ubuntu forums, very friendly and helpful.

If you want to play with the beta (I do). The best way in Ubuntu (you will have to hit the forums for Kubuntu I don't us it) is to install Breezy which is stable.

After that you will need to bring up a command line. (forgive my memory here) It is under the first entry on the menu in the top left most area and it is called terminal.

Once you are in type the following sudo geditetc-apt-sources.list it will ask you for your pbuttword (do not be alarmed when the cursor does not move while you enter your pbuttword).

Does a home network router need to run a DNS server for robust name resolution
Hello I am setting up a home network with a gateway machine that acts as a firewall and NAT forwarding host. I have set...
403 error on new Apache 2.2 install
Just installed Fedora Core 5. Without doing any configuration, just starting httpd, when I browse to the server I get...

After a moment a window will come up. Put # in front of the first entry. This is called a comment, you are telling the it to not ask for the cd when you add software.

Next uncomment or remove the # in front of the lines that start with deb and replace all occurrences of breezy with dapper.

Save and close.

now type sudo apt-get update

after that type sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

It will ask several times if it can replace your config files with new ones let it do so.

Finally you will want to hit the forums and search for a script called bumps this will ensure that you have the codec's, and other non-free (as in not open source) things like adobe reader and what not. I hated linux until I found the Ubuntu forums where I could get an answer without someone trying to make me feel stupid.

Good luck
