Yesterday being the 4th of July here in the states, I downloaded the latest Ubantu Breezy release..cautioned it is a true beta release I went ahead anyway. Having been a really early Linux experimenter I charged ahead. I am now on Ubantu.

Summary...

A Silly 390 Linux Question
My only direct experience of the IBM System-360 architecture was mediated through the Michigan Terminal System operating system. This ran on...

When it comes up it presents a new and different "mystic" with the "bongo" drum sound intercepts and the "brown-gold" color scheme embedded in it. I used the Debian "apt-get" to install this version of Pan I am using...I hope there are no "gotcha" situations in it that will foul up this note. I found out there are problems with Mozilla Thunderbird. The codecs for viewing funny pictures are missing from all viewers. The music steaming (kde amaroc) does not work out of the box and seems a bit different from the KDE rendition in MDK 10.5. or .2? Anyway, this is a debian spinoff and is pretty interesting...I suspect it will get better. However, if you want a go at a different rendition...try this...mind you it is not urpmi based...it is debian..apt-get. Then too, if you are brought up on KDE this is different, being a Gnome windows rendition...none of the alterative ICEWM lean, mean systems.

Mandriva, looks pretty good as I work my way through all these new efforts of Linux. Anyway, it is all interesting to have all these toys to play with!! Different learning curves, etc!

Anyway, beware that we are still in the early throes of developement and the older releases are still a bit superior. Watch for the next major release of Mandriva..I suspect it will be a notch better than ever before. The compebreastion is out there! Keep an eye peeled toward Pclinuxos. I try most of the new hot shot releases...an interesting exercise! The majority of the packages in Pclinuxos work and they have been well selected..This release by TexStar...an old friend to us from the Mandrake fold. Do be careful if you install a Lilo based boot after having installed a Grub based boot system...At times Grub does not take kindly to being told to go away from the MBR. It can be difficult moving from Ubantu to PclinuxOS...Grub requires brute force to leave the MBR.
