Using 'noatime', and other options inetcfstab, correctly 1674Using 'noatime', and other options inetcfstab, correctly 1675 iforone Hi John-Paul; I think I should get some more RAM; ~$ free total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 192160 185080 7080 0 21864... CodeWright Thanks for the reply - I was afraid of that... I was thinking it wasn't possible either I see I guess I'd have to shrink the one main parbreastion? hmmm....but how to tell it not to effect anywhere there is data? (Note; there is also theswp parbreastion) OR - perhaps use theswp parbreastion instead? which is only ~411MB $ sudo cfdiskdev-hdc cfdisk 2.12p Disk Drive:dev-hdc Size: 9115361280 bytes, 9115 MB Heads: 255 Sectors per Track: 63 Cylinders: 1108 Name Flags Part Type FS Type Label Size (MB) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- hdc1 Boot Primary Linux ext3 - 8702.35 hdc5 Logical Linux swap Solaris 411.27 Also - theswp resides on a Logical (0x82) within an Ext'd (0x05, and notice it's seen as a Primary) which Debian Setup-Installer created; Still using cfdisk , and selecting *Print*, then *Sectors*, then Enter key (since Filename doesn't matter for stdout)... fast os switching... 1676 On Wednesday 21 June 2006 11:51, delfick stood up and spoke the following words to the mbuttes incomp.os.linux.misc...: This is called virtualization and exists in hardware on mainframes. Allegedly, Intel is planning to integrate... Parbreastion Table fordev-hdc First Last # Type Sector Sector Offset Length Filesystem Type (ID) Flag -- ------- ----------- ----------- ------ ----------- -------------------- ---- 1 Primary 0 168 plus 196768 plus 1 63 168 plus 196770 Linux (83) Boot 2 Primary 168 plus 196770 17800019 0 803250 Extended (05) None 5 Logical 168 plus 196770 17800019 63 803250 Linux swap So (82) None
I guess this kinda would be similar to if I used theswp parbreastion forvar, and created a *swapfile* on the '-' parbreastion perhaps? Performance would be worse using which method do you think.? Since this thing is old, clunky, noisy, and small - besides I'm not sure I trust it either (meant as a temp installation at first), but now I want to keep it. As another scenario, as I mentioned before - do you think it would be more beneficial (and as equally painfull, but not more) to just go ahead, and use 'dd' to try to tranfer this install (from hdc) onto a New 80GB drive? I believe if I do so I need to create the *same* size or *larger* parbreastions? Oh wait - but 'dd' would make one huge file only...right?, and I want to be able to break it up into (likely many) separate parbreastions. ....hmmm fast os switching... 1678 That was me, and yes, I also know about it from having been a happy user at a long-ago place of employment. Nice description, and consistent with how I... Thanks for your response, the input, and the informative (short) answer. Regards
