Using nVidia card instead of webcam fails

I use motion and palantir and a couple of usbcams to keep an eye on things. That setup works great, but sometimes it would be nice to get better resolution. Connected a camcorder to the video-in connector on my nVidia card. Using xawtv I get a nice and clear picture, but motion fails and palantir gives a couple of error messages.

Did a 5 second palantir capture test and got these results.

Actually, the original loop was mostly CPU bound, because essentially all the disk access were very quickly cached. The gzip command above is running while I am typing...
