Using suse 10.0 rpms on suse 9 369Horacio Well, you can always install them. RPM has a lot of options to bypbutt its own securities and dependencies. It's just that the result is unpredictable to say the least. Ever heard the expression "RPM dependency hell"? Why don't you just upgrade to SuSE 10.0? Download the ISO from Novell's site and here you are. I used to do such things sometimes. PLD used to work rather well with my SuSE 8.2 but I knew what I was doing. Since I upgraded to 10.0, I don't do such things anymore. Refresh system devices Is there someway to refresh the system devices wihtout doing a reboot? Here is what I am doing. You can... No but you can convert an RPM with 'rpm2cpio', use 'cpio' to uncompress it, then install what you want by hand. The result will be the same than with forcefully installing an RPM that doesn't match with your distro: YMMV. If you want to take the hard road, get the sources and build. It's much safer and you'll be able to bypbutt some RPM dependencies when what is required will be installed. You can do what you want but somebody ever asked me directly, I would answer: Upgrade and don't try to fool RPM. Smart deeds never remain unpunished. ;-) -- ================== Remi Villatel ==================
