Vim on really old Laptop Slackware 2591

As you have discovered, using floppies and installing an extremely old version of Slackware is not going to work.

I buttume your laptop does have a serial port???? If not, that can be worked around too.

What you do is get an adapter for the hard disk, and install it into a regular desktop PC. With that hardware configuration, you can install a modern Slackware on the disk and then move it back to the laptop. Until you get something that will boot properly, you may have to go back and forth with the disk between the laptop and the PC a few times while you tweak things.

You can install the entire system that way, or not. If the laptop has a serial port, just install the bare minimum required to get it running with the ability to set up a PPP connection over the serial port, and then do the rest via a network connection. Otherwise, just do it all by swapping the disk back and forth until you get it right.

rand vs. random 2592
Amadeus W. M. For any serious statistical work and-or large series Monte Carlo experiments you may want to abandon both in favour of a better algoritm...

Regardless, forget about piece meal adding current binaries, or even trying to compile source, on a system that old. There are far too many compatibility problems.
